Call For Hindustani Classical Composers
an opportunity for a talented Hindustani Classical Music Composer to collaborate on a 30-minute Kathak production scheduled for October 2024. This project offers a unique and creative space to work in tandem with the dance form of Kathak.
Emerging and established composers are eligible!
Key Responsibilities:
- Composing: Create an original composition that complements the intricacies of Kathak dance, showcasing a deep understanding of both musical and rhythmic nuances.
- Mixing: Skillfully blend various elements of Hindustani classical music to enhance the overall production quality, ensuring a harmonious integration with the dance form.
- Creative Collaboration: Work closely with the dance choreographer to develop music inspired by the dialogue and visuals within the performance.
Skills Required:
- Proficiency in composing and understanding Hindustani Classical music.
- Past experience or interest in working with Kathak artists.
- Expertise in mixing and producing high-quality audio.
- Creative approach to music creation, drawing inspiration from dance, visual elements, and conversations with the choreographer.
Offer:
- A flat fee and budget for musicians will be provided to the selected composer for their contribution to the project.
- The artist can be located anywhere and can work remotely.
- Rates will be provided in accordance with dance industry rates in Canada established for music.
Submission Requirements:
Interested composers are invited to submit the following:
- Statement of Interest: A brief statement outlining your interest in the project, how you would approach collaborating with dance (or how you have in the past), and your experience in Hindustani classical music composition.
- Sample Work: Provide short samples (audio or video) of your past creations that demonstrate your skills in composing and mixing. Materials in the context of classical dance collaborations is preferred.
